Your time to grow

The lecture phase of the Discipleship Training School is the time for you to focus on God and to grow closer to Him. You will do this together with your staff and with your fellow students. Though the main focus of these weeks is on knowing God more, we will already have weekly outreach opportunities. From ministering to people during local festivals, to giving away sandwiches to homeless folks, to offering free prayer and hot chocolate on the streets, you will have plenty of opportunities to meet people, grow personally, and share your story with others.

A closer look at our schedule

Each week during the DTS we will have 50 hours of scheduled activities. These 50 hours will include: worship, intercession, lectures, outreach prep, one-on-one’s, small groups, work duties, community service, reading, meals and fellowship. You will be busy, but you will certainly have enough time to also explore the natural wonders of Utah. In fact, during your DTS we will spend time learning in the mountains and visit some of Utah’s beautiful national parks.

Our mornings will be the most similar every day. A typical morning could look like:

7:00 am     Breakfast
8:00 am     Quiet Time, Worship & Intercession
10:00 am   Lectures
12:30 pm   Reflections
1:00 pm     Lunch

As the name suggests, lectures will be an important part of the “lecture phase.” Every week we will have a different speaker come and stay with us and each speaker will have special experience with the topic that he or she will be sharing on. Some of the topics that will be covered during your lecture phase will be specifically focused on getting to know God more. Examples are:

  • Nature and Character of God
  • Father Heart of God
  • Hearing God’s voice
  • Holy Spirit
  • The Cross

Other topics are focused on preparing you to reach out to others. These topics could include:

  • Evangelism
  • Worldview
  • Culture

In addition we will cover topics that focus on Inner Healing, Intercession, Spiritual Warfare, Identity in Christ, as well as, Purpose & Calling.

As much as possible, we will have our lecture times during the mornings.

In the afternoons our activities will change from day-to-day. Some days we will stay inside to spend time together or to learn more about our outreach locations, while on others we will go outside to have fun and/or to see how we can serve in the community. Twice a week we will have also have evening activities. These will be focused on either worship, fellowship, or outreach.

In addition to our scheduled activities, we offer special focuses during the lecture phase. These are offered on a seasonal basis when we have enough staff to incorporate them. If you want to read more about these opportunities, please check the out the pages such as Archery, Winter Sports, Winter Compassion, and Writing.

God’s heart for Utah

In any case, we hope that during the Lecture Phase you will get the chance to see some of God’s heart for Utah. We will do this through having prayer times with a focus on Utah, by showing you more of the area, and by teaching you more about the people in Utah. Since 60+ percent of Utah’s population is part of the LDS (Mormon) church, we will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about the LDS faith. You will also get plenty of opportunities to interact with and reach out to people of the LDS faith and the many other communities in Utah.
