Our story doesn’t start with us. Many people before us have had a heart to see YWAM come to Utah and each has left its impact. And, I am convinced that we have never even heard of some of these stories. On this page we do want to share some of our own stories to show you just some of the ways that God has been calling us to be a part of this vision.

Menke’s story:
“The first time I came to Utah was during my Discipleship Training School in 2009. We only spent a week in Utah and one of our focuses was to pray for YWAM to come to Utah. It is cool to now see myself being able to be a part of that! During that trip I also got introduced to the LDS faith. This was all very new to me as I had never really heard of the LDS church before coming to America for my DTS. It was interesting to learn about some of the differences in how we see God and Jesus and to realize that probably most of the people inside of the LDS church really don’t know the Jesus that I’ve gotten to know through the Bible and in my own life.

In addition, we also got to reach out to people on the street. We had a good time especially one particular evening when we served free hot chocolate and offered prayer in downtown Salt Lake City. During this night our group got to pray for a group of college students who were out to celebrate their friends 21st birthday. Their prayer request was that they wouldn’t get so drunk that they couldn’t get home safely. I think that is one of the fun things of doing outreach, you get to hear many people’s stories and you get to serve them and bless them no matter where they are at. I am excited for what God wants to do in Utah and in our outreach throughout the world in the future!”

Troy’s story:
“When I received my call into missions my heart was immediately turned to places where people said that we were losing or said that the were too hard. My only relationship with God was formed in a world where He was master and I was slave. He convicted us of sin, but did He want anything else? And, to be honest, I was wreck inside. Since then I’ve learned that there is a lot more to the call of mission than “us and them”, that God is a Father to us who loves us and wants to be with us, and I’ve learned to trust Him with more areas of my life. His grace keeps on healing me deeper and deeper. He is amazing. His presence Has changed my life.

And with all that, my heart is still immediately called to difficult places and situations. I love challenges and I love my God. He can change the individual’s heart, unite the family, save the city, and heal the nation when He shows up and shares Himself with us. I’ve experienced it and seen it happen. My hope is to see this happen here in Utah.”
